Self Care Rituals…

Do you have a self care ritual? Sometimes just spending a few more minutes a day, taking a breath, or a few moments of meditation can make all the difference…

Running a deep bath and adding some essential bath oils, lighting a candle and blocking out the real world for 20 minutes. These are all things that I find really helpful.

We all know that self-care is essential for maintaining physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Taking time for oneself allows for relaxation, rejuvenation, and a break from the stresses of daily life. After all the Romans knew what they were doing when they invented their infamous bathing rituals. The Romans recognised the therapeutic benefits of bathing, and many of their baths were equipped with features such as hot and cold pools, steam rooms (caldarium), and saunas (sudatorium). These facilities were believed to have medicinal properties and were used to treat various ailments, relieve muscle tension, and promote overall well-being.

Most of us mere mortals don’t have our own personal in house spas, but making the most of even a modest bathroom space can have a positive effect on your overall wellbeing and mood.

  1. Stress Reduction: Spending time in the bathroom, whether it's taking a bath or hot shower can significantly reduce stress levels. The warm water of a bath can relax tense muscles, while the solitude of the bathroom provides a quiet space for reflection and relaxation. Read a book in the bath, listen to some relaxing music, light a candle, its the simple things that make such a difference to your mental health.

  2. Physical Health Benefits: Bathing has numerous physical health benefits, such as improving circulation, soothing sore muscles, and promoting better sleep. It can also help to cleanse the skin and detoxify the body, leaving you feeling refreshed and revitalized.

  3. Mental Health Benefits: Engaging in self-care rituals can have positive effects on mental health. They provide an opportunity to practice mindfulness, focusing on the present moment and letting go of worries and anxieties. The simple act of caring for oneself can boost self-esteem and promote a sense of well-being.

  4. Personalise your space: Your bathroom should be your sanctuary, and can be customised to reflect your personal style and preferences, creating a space that feels inviting and comforting. Whether it's adding colourful prints, scented candles, soft towels, or decorative elements, incorporating items that bring you joy can enhance the self-care experience. Adding a beautiful ceramic bathroom basin to your space will add a touch of unique personality to your bathroom, and bring you joy and a sense of luxury.

So it doesn’t matter if your bathroom is large or small, remember to take a few moments for yourself. Close the door, light a candle and soak away a few long moments to yourself. Its the small simple things that can make a big difference…
